About Pretenures
JrProfessHers (Pretenures) is a moderated mailing list for women faculty in computer science,computer engineering and information technology who do not yet have tenure. Because being in a new (or relatively new) job and going through the tenure process can be stressful, it can be useful to share experiences with and get advice from other women in the same situation. Some of the topics will likely be specific to women, while others will be more general. Anonymous postings can be made by sending a request to the list moderators. This list requires each subscriber to provide a short statement about her qualifications to join this list; specifically, that she is: * a faculty member in a computer science, computer engineering, or information technology department * in a tenure track position * not yet tenured * female It has been formed from the membership of Systers Online Community. Using Pretenures
The mailing list is organized around conversations. To begin a new conversation, send email to Pretenures+new@athena.systers.org. Alternately, if you would like to specify a name for your new conversation, send your message to Pretenures+new+name@athena.systers.org, replacing name with the name you would like (e.g., Pretenures+new+greetings@athena.systers.org). To continue an existing conversation, simply use your mailer's "reply-all" command. You can subscribe to the list in the next section of this page, or if you are already a subscriber, use the bottom section to change options or unsubscribe.
Subscribing to Pretenures
Subscribe to Pretenures by filling out the following form. This is a closed list, which means your subscription will be held for approval. You will be notified of the list moderator's decision by email. This is also a private list, which means that the list of members is not available to non-members. You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription.
