ProfessHers is a moderated mailing list for women faculty members in computer science, computer engineering, and information technology to informally discuss issues related to their jobs and being successful in their careers. Possible topics include aspects of graduate and undergraduate teaching, advising students, research, funding, interactions with colleagues, professional service, time management, promotion, and administrative work, especially for issues that are affected by being a woman or for which the perspectives of other women faculty are desired. For sensitive situations, anonymous requests for advice can be posted and anonymous responses can be made, by request to the list moderator. This list requires each subscriber to provide a short statement about her qualifications to join this list; specifically, that she is: * a faculty member in computer science, computer engineering, or information technology at a university or college * female To see the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the ProfessHers Archives. (The current archive is only available to the list members.)
Using ProfessHers
The mailing list is organized around conversations. To begin a new conversation, send email to ProfessHers+new@systers.org. Alternately, if you would like to specify a name for your new conversation, send your message to ProfessHers+new+name@systers.org, replacing name with the name you would like (e.g., ProfessHers+new+greetings@systers.org). The list moderator can post anonymous postings for list members. To do this, please send her a request at professhers-keeper@systers.org and she will work with you to get an appropriately anonymized version of the message out to the list. To continue an existing conversation, simply use your mailer's "reply-all" command. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below.
Subscribing to ProfessHers
Subscribe to ProfessHers by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's decision by email. This is also a private list, which means that the list of members is not available to non-members. Your email address:   Your name:   This list requires subscribers to provide a short essay on their qualifications to join this list. To join the list, you must tell us:1) your involvement in technical computing -- one or two sentences is enough, 2) that you are a woman, and 3) that you agree to follow the rules in the frequently asked questions. Thank you! You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription.
